Pilates is a intelligent form of exercise that integrates body and mind.  Pilates uses unique exercises and sequences to bring alignment, posture and balance to the entire body.  Pilates helps you to balance strength with flexibility to minimise undue stress across joints.  Great emphasis is placed on correct breathing techniques to provide stability to movement and oxygenation to the entire body. 

What can Pilates help me with?
 

Consistent Pilates practice may help with:

  • Improved posture

  • Reduced muscular and joint pain

  • Stability and strength

  • Muscular balance to release areas of unequal tension

  • Muscular tone

  • Flexibility

  • Stress management 

  • Pregnancy - including preparing your body for pregnancy; stabilisation during pregnancy; post-natal recovery; and postural alignment and strength whilst carrying and breastfeeding your baby

  • Body awareness - performed consistently, Pilates exercises generate a strong sense of body awareness that carries through into your daily activities to help reduce poor posture, one of key contributors to back and neck pain.

  • Sports performance - all of the above factors combine to create extremely efficient movement, help to prevent injuries occurring and enhance recovery between sessions.

Frequently asked questions

I have zero coordination, will I cope in a Pilates class?


Yes! In fact all the more reason to do Pilates :) The class environment I aim for is supportive and fun while still having a proper workout. We always have a laugh (usually at my expense!) and we always learn something. Win win! If you are really worried about how you will cope you can always book in for a couple of private sessions with me first so you get an idea of what it will be like before you go into a class situation.




I'm pregnant, is Pilates suitable for me?


This depends on your individual situation so please contact me on 0435 050575 for a chat first. Generally speaking, if you have been doing Pilates or a similar level of exercise before pregnancy you may be okay to continue. If you have never done Pilates before, wait until your second semester and start with private classes.




I have back pain, will I be okay in a Pilates class?


This depends on your individual situation so please phone me on 0435 050575 for a chat. If you have chronic (long term) back pain and are currently seeing a healthcare practitioner to help, please ask them for their advice on whether Pilates is suitable and if so, would they recommend a class, private sessions or rehabilitation Pilates with a Physiotherapist. If you have recently injured your back and are in acute pain Pilates mat classes are not suitable for you.




How often do I need to practice Pilates to feel results?


2-3 times per week e.g. 1 x full class and 2 x 15 minutes of foundation exercises. Now I don't mean you need to do an hour's class 2-3 times per week but you do need to practice at least a 15 minute routine 2-3 times per week so your body starts to integrate the new patterns of movement we're trying to set up. Once you know the fundamental exercises, I have a short video I can send you so you can practice these at home to keep you going inbetween classes...so there really are no excuses (well no decent ones anyway!).





Class Types

Private Classes (1-3 people)

 

Do I need a private class?  Private classes are great for a more personalised workout.  In the mini-studio in McLaren Vale you can have a class all to yourself or workout with a friend or two for extra support.  Private classes can complement a group class to be your second workout for the week.  They are great if you do shift work so cannot always make a class at the same time every week.  Class prices start from $25 per person.  Read more...

Group Classes

Group mat classes in a friendly, supportive environment are a fun way to work out and a great way to commit to your health.  They are still small groups with a maximum of 12 people so I can keep an eye on everyone.  These classes are run in the community hall in McLaren Flat and prices start from $15.  Read more...
