Kinesiology & Nutrition

What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is a hands-on therapy based on the meridian system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Kinesiologists use muscle testing to help identify and reset the meridians and body systems that are out of balance. Kinesiology recognises the important links between the structure of the body, the biochemical status, the emotional state and the subtle energy systems.  An imbalance in one area can affect the others impacting your overall level of health, function and ability to recover from illness or injury.  The type of Kinesiology I practice addresses all four areas.

If too many layers of imbalance build up for your body to cope with, it will get locked into the fight/flight response.  In this state (sympathetic nervous system dominance) your body is programmed to prioritise survival rather than healing; reactive thinking rather than rational thinking; inflammatory response rather than immune system response just to name a few.

Kinesiology uses a range of gentle, hands-on techniques to help the nervous system come out of sympathetic dominance and back into 'rest and digest' mode (parasympathetic).

In Australia, Registered Kinesiologists have studied anatomy, physiology, pathology, nutrition, Traditional Chinese Medicine meridian philosophy, muscle monitoring and specific Kinesiology techniques.  This unique combination of eastern and western health perspectives provides great insight on how your symptoms may be linked helping us work effectively and efficiently.

How is nutrition integrated with Kinesiology?

Addressing nutrition is fundamental to good health.  We want to minimise nutritional stress on the body and provide the right quantity and quality of foods and nutrients.  Then, there can be a return to optimal digestion, assimilation, detoxification and regeneration.

Every body is in a different biochemical state and everyone’s lifestyles are different and therefore require a different approach to nutrition.  If I have learnt anything, it's that there is no 'one size fits all' when it comes to nutrition.  That is why I love integrating Kinesiology & nutrition.  Kinesiology helps us identify what your body’s priorities are so we can tailor nutritional therapy specifically to you at this stage of your life.

The health philosophy that forms the basis of nutritional therapy at Collectivelements comes from a wide variety of study and experience in both clinical Dietetics and holistic nutrition.  Read the Health Philosophy.  Read more about Carla's training, qualifications and experience.

Because Kinesiology is based in the meridian system of Chinese Medicine, the body and its energy systems are seen as a whole.  Mental health and physical health are one and the same.  Our environment, families, communities and work are all interconnected with our health. Therefore Kinesiology is a tailored experience to every person.  Symptoms are a guide to underlying issues but not every person with the same symptom will need the same approach.  Your experience of Kinesiology will be unique to you!
