And finally, F is for...

Hi everyone,

And here we are into Autumn, Easter and the final instalment of the Collective Elements Health Philosophy.  Today is F for...

Flow

A vital, healthy organism is one where there is flow on a physical and energetic level. Learn what is creating blockages of energy flow (meridians) in your body and how to release them.

Flow leads on nicely from the last email about E for Energy.  Our energy needs to flow in order for us to function optimally.  We need flow in our digestive systems so the body can digest and assimilate nutrients and eliminate waste.  We need flow in our nervous systems so that nerves can electrically stimulate our muscles, organs and glands appropriately.  We need the electromagnetic energy to flow through our meridians so that the associated organs, glands and muscles can function optimally and the emotions can be processed and resolved.

All aspects of our physical, emotional, mental and energetic beings are constantly in flow, we are dynamic beings.  If there are any blockages of flow on any level, our sense of vitality and energy is affected.  Think of the tightness we feel when there is a blocked trigger point in a muscle.  Or the consequences of scar tissue post-surgery if we don't get movement and blood flow back into the area.  What happens when emotions are blocked e.g. you don't have the opportunity to express grief?  The same goes with a blocked acupressure point or chakra.

As well as working with a practitioner to gain insight into what's blocking flow for you and discovering what you need to restore flow, you can also work with this concept yourself.  For example, if you have an elbow injury that is taking longer than expected to heal you can ask yourself, "What might be blocking this elbow from healing properly?"  Think about it at all levels e.g.

  • Structural - are there any movements I'm doing too much of or not enough of?  This could be using a mouse with the affected arm all day  in which case, could I use the mouse with my other hand for a while?

  • Chemical - are there any foods you are eating that might be contributing to ongoing inflammation e.g. sugar, caffeine, alcohol, refined white flour, additives (there are many more!).  Or are there any natural anti-inflammatory supplements you could take to help with inflammation e.g. turmeric?

  • Mental/emotional - what beliefs do you have around this injury that may be blocking it's healing e.g. "Well my friend had exactly the same injury and she ended up having to have surgery so that's what's probably going to happen."  or "Well, my mum had arthritis at about my age so it's probably the start of that and there's nothing I can do about it."  Are you able to reframe this belief?  (take it to your practitioner if you are unsure how to do this).

  • Energetic - speak to your practitioner (e.g. Kinesiologist, TCM practitioner, Reiki practitioner) about what meridians and chakras may be linked with the injury and they will be able to help you during your treatment as well as give you points to work on at home.

There are so many ways to re-establish flow if it has been blocked.  It's just a matter of finding the best options for you and often we need to come at it from a few different angles.

Happy flowing!

Carla :)
