Are you anchored this Spring?

Hi everyone,

Well Spring has sprung and the weather is certainly up and down like a Jack in the box!  For some, Spring can bring relief that we can come out of winter hibernation, for others it can bring the annoyance or distress of hayfever and for some it can feel stressful as we realise the year is coming into it's last quarter.

In Chinese Medicine Spring is represented by the wood element which contains the liver and gallbladder meridians.  So it is a great time for spring cleaning in any sense - our bodies, our wardrobes, our sheds and even our minds.  The wood element reminds us to ground ourselves with an awareness of where we are at (without judgement) and from here, create an intention of where we want our focus to be moving forward.  The focus not only for the rest of 2025 but also for 2026.  If we don't do this now, it is Christmas and New Years before we know it and we find ourselves with no focus for the year ahead.  It could be a health focus, a work focus, a family focus, a personal goal or anything else you can think of where you want to direct your energy.  Something you can reset your focus to when you find your mind wandering in unhelpful ways, or you find yourself distracted by shiny, exciting things that other people are doing.  It's not something we need to be rigid about, it's simply something to anchor ourselves with.  Think of a large tree with branches that can sway in the wind easily because of the deep, strong, roots anchoring into mother earth.  What is going to help you stay anchored over the next 12 months?

For me I know I need more focus on physical activity as I've been slack with that lately but my body really really needs it and I feel much better for it.  My other focus is not setting myself up for failure by thinking I can fit more into my week than I really can - and then either feeling exhausted or feeling like a failure!  (I'm very good at doing this :)  So I'm in the midst of planning my diary for 2026 allowing enough time for home stuff and down time as well as all the 'doing'!

So how can we tell if we are anchored or uprooted?

Being present in our physical bodies and our inner energy field is key to noticing whether we are feeling anchored or uprooted.  When we are anchored we generally feel calm and relaxed yet alert on the physical, mental and emotional levels.  Calm and clear thinking - not foggy brained, scattered or drowsy.  We can cope and problem solve when most things are thrown at us such as kids being defiant, dogs throwing up or difficult colleagues.

So check in 3 times a day to see how you are feeling on all levels (only takes a few seconds).  And if you are not feeling anchored ask yourself what you need in order to refocus on your intention.  Are you getting too caught up in a work project that doesn't actually need to be done perfectly and your intention is to get home on time at least 4 days a week so you can potter in the garden for 15mins before dinner because that grounds you and gives you immense satisfaction.

On that note, I can feel my shoulders telling me to get off the computer and go and do some Pilates!

Happy anchoring!

Carla :)
