Hi everyone,
Last week I had a long overdue catch up with friend and colleague, Tansy Boggon. Two cups of tea later and the world put to rights we had covered many topics including her new children’s book “The Superheroes on Your Plate”.
I've been lucky enough to have a sneak preview and I'm still trying to work out my favourite character - there are just too many cuties! It has a great message - there are so many foods that are nutrition superheroes - if we simply focus on having more of them on our plates we'll be doing well.
There are a few easy to grasp nutrition messages in the book but the way it's illustrated and presented means it could be used for a wide age group. The really little ones can use it as a picture book identifying all the different foods and the older ones can decide which superhero foods go well together and which ones they might want to try if they haven't done so already. There are lots of activities it could prompt (I'm thinking school holidays here!):
- write their own superhero food story and illustrate it
- find a recipe with a superhero food in it and have a go at making it
- make up a song and/or dance about a superhero food
- make a list of other superhero foods that didn't quite make it into the book
As well as making a great bedtime story, it would also be a fantastic tool for primary school teachers, parents doing home schooling or healthcare professionals who work with children e.g. doctors, nutritionists & dietitians, speech pathologists, OTs, music and art therapists and I'm sure there are more!
To pre-order the book ahead of the launch on 30th Nov head to Tansy's website and follow the link to her publisher:
It's only $16.95 and has free shipping in Australia. Please purchase it from here rather than Amazon - selling 5 books on Amazon would just about buy Tansy a cup of coffee - yes it's that bad!
Happy reading!
Carla :)
P.S. Want to re-read a previous email but have deleted it? (accidentally of course!) Not to fear - all previous emails are available on the website blog or facebook.
P.P.S. There are more children's books to come!
